London, May 28, 2008 (Business Wire) – US-based Dark Fibre innovator, XKL LLC (www.XKL.com), has been announced as sponsor of the forthcoming Dark Fibre Convention (www.darkfibreconvention.com) taking place in London 12-13 June 2008. Delegates will include representatives of companies in Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

XKL was founded and is currently led by Cisco Systems co-founder Len Bosack. The company’s aim is to enable businesses create high-speed optical networks at a fraction of the cost of carrier-provided services. Its innovative DXM Optical Transport System can “change the way” companies deploy IT.

New opportunity for Dark Fibre is emerging both inside the metro and also in connecting rural business parks, enterprises and data centres outside city centres. In central and eastern Europe the story is still one of early growth and despite investment and equipment shortage and regulatory hurdles is recording 15% annual growth according to BroadGroup research.

“Dark Fibre enables enterprises to change the way in which they can deploy IT,” commented Nicola Hayes, vice president of BroadGroup, the event researchers and producers. “It is already evident that US enterprises have led the emergence of community fibre. The event will provide a host of case studies which reveal different approaches that can be adopted, as well as buying, selling and pricing dark fibre.”

New fibre technologies and innovations will be showcased together with case studies in network implementation. Workshops will assess building dark fibre networks and preparing for 100GB Gigabit Ethernet transmission.

Industry support for a Dark Fibre networking hub has grown over the past two years, where companies and users engaged in this very focused sector can meet and hear directly from senior representatives and thought leaders.

The event will provide a content rich programme designed to deliver insight into growth occurring in the sector with original research presentations, top level case studies from CxOs, VPs and Directors, and open the opportunity for attendees to have access to a wide range of national and international networking opportunities.

Speakers include the leadership of companies currently deploying new networks and representatives from Alchemy Partners, Anthem Capital, BroadGroup, Carphone Warehouse Networks, CERN, Dante, Emtelle, e Net Ireland, Eurofiber, H2O Networks, Hafslund Telecom, Huawei Technologies, id Quantique, Opnext Inc, Packetfront, Surf Telecoms, The OPLAN Foundation, and Vtesse Networks.

Endorsed by the Fibreoptic Industry Association, sponsors for the event include Surf Telecoms, H2O Networks, and Huawei Technologies.
